A Closer Look

Objective 26-10c: Reduce the proportion of adults misusing/abusing prescription drugs.

Target Population: Adults aged 18 and older

Investigation Focus: What factors facilitate the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs?

Rationale for Selection: Prescription drug abuse is often overlooked but is becoming more rampant than ever.  It seems that it only comes to attention when something devastating has happened, such as someone overdosing.  Its increasing prevalence, though, should bring it to the forefront of society's attention to detrimental behaviors. By focusing on what has facilitated the growth of this problem, practical means of alleviating its consequences can be devised.

As future medical professionals, we seek to promote healthier usage of prescription drugs as a way to prevent its harmful emotional, physical, and psychological effects.
